Volunteers Mourn Loss Of Fellow Firefighter

Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria is deeply saddened to learn of the death of a volunteer fire-fighter from Gisborne Fire Brigade at the scene of a house fire in Gisborne early this morning.

Despite fellow members attempting first aid after he was found unconscious at the scene around 0130hrs, and advance life support being provided by paramedics upon their arrival, he was unfortunately unable to be revived.

VFBV Officers and Executive members from District 2 are liaising with CFA and the brigade to ensure all requested support and assistance is provided to both the family and the Brigade.

In order to respect the families privacy, VFBV is not releasing any further details of the member, and requests all members to honour the families and brigade’s privacy while they move through this very difficult time. Any details of arrangements will be provided in due course.

On behalf of the Board, CEO, Office Holders’, members and all volunteers, we offer our most heartfelt sympathies for their loss. Our thoughts are with both the family and the members of Gisborne Fire Brigade during this difficult time.

Firefighters Prayer

When I am called to duty, God,
wherever flames may rage,
grant us the strength to save lives,
whatever be their age.

Help us embrace a little child,
before it is too late,
or save an older person,
from the horror of that fate.

Enable us to be alert,
and hear the weakest shout,
to quickly and efficiently,
put the fires out.

We want to fulfil our calling,
and be the best we can,
n guarding our every neighbour,
and protecting their property.

And if it be, while on the job,
I should lose my life,
please bless with your sustaining hand,
all those I’ve loved in life.

Amen.
