White Paper - Major Reform To Emergency Management In Victoria

The State Government has released its White Paper on changes to the Emergency Management sector.

It is important that all volunteers read about the White Paper and advise their District Council of any thoughts or concerns.

The White Paper indicates the State Government will introduce an Emergency Management Commissioner within the new overarching authority called Emergency Management Victoria to co-ordinate the agencies responding to any major disaster other than a terrorist attack or criminal matter, which would be handled by the Victoria Police.

The announcement also included the significant announcement by the Minister of the establishment of a Volunteer consultative forum, reporting direct to him.

The forum, to be established early in 2013, will ensure the important input and advice of volunteers will be heard at the highest levels.

The White Paper follows the Green Paper consultation process, to which VFBV provided a detailed submission.

You can see VFBV's initial response on the media releases page of this website, or download a copy of the White Paper by clicking on the link below.
