CFA in consultation with VFBV is about to undertake a project to issue a quantity of wild fire helmet torches to all brigades. Funding for the project has been successfully obtained through a State Government initiative. Torches will not be individually (personally) allocated, but rather a cache (based on 1 torch per seat) will be allocated to each bushfire fire-fighting vehicle, along with adequate stowage.

One torch per seat will be allocated for each bushfire firefighting vehicle.

Part of the project’s aim is to ensure all wildfire helmets have a base fitted to allow a torch to be fitted when needed, so CFA needs to establish the quantity and locations of helmets that require retrofitting.

A survey is being distributed with options for the Brigade, an outside contractor to visit brigades, or sending helmets to District for fitting. CFA is also considering making fittings available at large District events (such as pre-season updates & meetings).
